Why its important to be yourself in the blogging community

I was watching a vlog the other day by Emma (brummymummyof2) and she was explaining that she often gets comments on her vlogs or photo’s from other people claiming that she was trying to be like her friend fellow blogger/vlogger Louise Pentland (sprinkle of glitter).

Now, whilst I see why some people may think this as for example; they are both Mum’s and both are quite bubbly/fun people, I think it’s important to recognise that actually they are both different and I bet neither of them want to be the same as each other because they have each lived, battled and triumphed separately to get to where they are today.

Nobody is the same as anyone else – everyone has grew up under different circumstances, in different communities and have experienced things and met people who make them who they are today. This is how personality is created and why we are always evolving and changing as people.

There is a quote I like by Chuck Palahniuk which goes  ‘Nothing of me is original. I am the combined effort of everyone I’ve ever known.’

I think this sums up what I am trying to say perfectly.

So this brought me to think about my blog and the blogging community in general. I didn’t want my blog to be just ‘another lifestyle blog’ and I want to be able to offer something of myself to it and my own personal thoughts and feelings towards things (whether that be personal advice from experiences or even something as mundane as a new lipstick)!

I just wanted to share that and hope that I do capture the person behind the screen in my posts because I am ME and I am not just another ‘lifestyle blogger’.

Some things about me:

-I am 29 and I spend most of the time in comfy clothes with my bunnies in the garden – not dressed in fancy clothes or make up as people may assume most bloggers are!

-My favourite band is Placebo and I have lost count on how many times I have seen them live.

-I have two rabbits named Belle and Prince whom I named after my favourite Disney movie.

-I have lived in both London and Cornwall but have always came back home to where my family is (the heart)!

-Last year I went on the most epic trip of my life and hiked the Grand Canyon and Hollywood hills with Trek America (I am planning a blog post about this soon).

-I have experienced some pretty terrible times myself with mental health growing up but I got through them and I hope to use my experiences to help other people where I can.

These are just a few things about me which make me who I am today. Everyone has their thing, their lifestyles and their experiences – its what makes the world exciting and people interesting so I just wanted to remind anyone reading not to be so quick to judge over the internet and think of the person behind the screen.

Thanks for reading.
